Distinguished and Famous people from Patterson Lakes

🎬 Jane Turner and Gina Riley

Jane Turner and Gina Riley made Patterson Lakes part of Australian television history through Kath & Kim. A real house in the suburb stood in for Chateau Kath in the fictional Fountain Lakes, providing rooms, a backyard and an unmistakably suburban setting for their mother-and-daughter comedy. Turner played Kath and Riley played Kim, while their writing turned domestic arrangements, aspiration and family irritation into recognisable comic material. The suburb supplied a working location for the production across its original run. Fellow cast member Peter Rowsthorn later recalled visiting stars and the house’s naturally squeaky door, a modest contribution to sound design that required no special effects. The property was eventually demolished, but the filmed setting remains familiar to audiences who may never have known where Fountain Lakes really was.
